BcnandCake 2014: 3ª Edición / Third Edition

El sábado 29 de noviembre estuvimos en la 3ª edición de la feria BcnandCake.

Last Saturday 29 of November, we went to BcnandCake third edition.

A los cinco minutos de entrar, pudimos comprobar que este año no iba a ser igual que los anteriores, pues el número de stands eran muy inferior al del año pasado, el nivel de los concursos también bajó, y como siempre, poca diversidad en cuanto al uso de ingredientes para crear.

Just five minutes after having entered, we could see that this year was going to be different from the former ones, as the number of booths was clearly lower comparing to last year, the level of the competitions had also dropped and, as always, there was little variety of ingredients to create.

Los Stands / The Booths:

Hemos de decir que hemos podido ver 4 o 5 stands con grandes profesionales de diferentes especialidades, entre otros David Cakes, Ponquecitos and Cakes y Panes Creativos, donde pudimos apreciar espectaculares obras con mucho talento. Como novedad este año, el stand de Força, alimentació natural, donde se dedican a la repostería vegana, la cual estamos encantados de haber probado. Desgraciadamente, la gran mayoría de los otros expositores se dedicaba a fondant, cupcakes y utensilios.

We have to say that we could see 4 or 5 booths with great professionals from different specialties, like, among others, David Cakes, Ponquecitos and Cakes and Panes Creativos, where we had the opportunity to value spectacular works with a lot of talent. As a novelty this year, Força, alimentació natural booth, where we were happy to taste vegan patisserie. Unfortunately most of the other exhibitors only showed fondant, cupcakes and tools.

  

              

De igual forma, dado como promocionaron el rincón “Choco Lovers”, fuimos a esta feria convencidos de que habría algo más relacionado con este ingrediente, pero sólo pudimos ubicar al stand de Torras.

Given the great promotion done to the “Choco Lovers” part, we also went to this exhibition convinced that we could find something more related to this ingredient, but we could only see Torras booth.

Los Talleres / The Workshops: 

Sólo diremos una cosa: nos sorprendió mucho la falta de profesionalidad de algún ponente, ya que impartir un taller llevando una camiseta en lugar chaqueta resulta como poco chocante.

We’ll only say one thing: we were very surprised by the lack of professionalism of some speaker, as giving a course wearing a tee-shirt instead of a jacket is, at least, shocking.

Los Concursos / The Competitions:

Con la novedad del concurso de pasteles de chocolate, la verdad es que esperábamos algo impresionante. Las imágenes hablan por sí solas: decepcionante se queda muy corto para lo que ofrecieron.

With the newness of the chocolate cakes competition, we thought we would see amazing cakes. The pictures speak for themselves: disappointing is the least we can say seeing what was offered.

                

El año pasado, a pesar de no haber entregado ningún primer premio por “falta de nivel” según comentaron los organizadores, la cual no constatamos, tuvimos la oportunidad de ver auténticas obras de arte en algunas categorías del concurso. Este año, ofrecieron el primer premio a esta escultura de fondant… no hace falta decir nada más: aunque no esté nada mal, es indudablemente inferior a lo que se presentó en el 2013.

Last year, though no first price was given because of a “lack of level” (according to the organization) that we did not confirm, we had the opportunity to see true pieces of art in some categories of the competition. This year, they offered the first price to this fondant sculpture… it’s useless to say more: though it is not bad, it is undoubtedly lower than the cakes that were showed in 2013.

              

    

                    

Desgraciadamente, siendo Alma Obregón la gran protagonista de este evento, esta feria se enfoca cada vez más a un público amateur y no profesional, eligiendo este último otras exposiciones como por ejemplo el fórum gastronómico, entre otros, conllevando una bajada del nivel de BcnandCake.

Certainly because Alma Obregón is the biggest protagonist of this event, this exhibition focuses unfortunately every year more on an amateur public, and not on a professional one, choosing the latest other exhibitions like, for example and among others, the gastronomic forum, entailing consequently a fall in BcnandCake level.

Esperemos que en el futuro sepan valorar más a grandes profesionales que tienen incluso muy cerca.

We hope that, in the future, they are able to value great professionals, who are very near, even in Barcelona area.
